03 Apr 08

First thing, I went about getting Zac some veneer together for demoing a steering wheel spoke for the Wood magazine cameras today. Everyone showed up at about 8am this morning, and I could tell it was going to be a chaotic day. 2 photographers, 2 editors, 7 Splinter team members and 1 dog were in the shop today. Ok, sorry Brownie, 8 Splinter team members including 1 dog. I assembled the front suspension for the photo shoot this morning. I had to pose for a bunch of pictures in front of all my buddies for an hour or so, which will certainly be held over my head for a long time to come. Meanwhile, Hunt, Luke and Caroline worked on laying down some 45degree layers onto the butterfly panel. After that went into the bag, we prepared for the woven dash laminate. Ben, Aaron, Caroline and I made a shower pan liner vacuum bag for the cameras and broke for lunch. Caroline brought together a masterpiece of hot dogs, chips, beans and cookies. We took some group photos with the body mold plug after lunch and got ready to roll on the dash. Aaron and Caroline wove from once side while Luke and Ben wove from the other side. Hunt rolled glue while I went over to help Zac demo his steering wheel spoke. We got the dashboard mold in the bag and started to setting up to epoxy a layer of tessellated end grain balsa to the butterfly panel. Everything was winding down by this point, and we pretty much called it a day once we got this part in the bag. We finished up at about 715pm. It was a great day, but a long, hectic one. Thomas is coming up tonight to help out for a couple of days, so that will be good.
